A calling to create…

Most, if not all, kids imagine who they want to be when they grow up. Those ideas flew in many directions during my childhood—singer, actress, nurse, cosmetologist. The truth is, I never truly cultivated an identity for myself. These dreams were reflections of what I saw around me, not of who I was called to be.

Growing up, I spent countless hours watching MTV, BET and VH1 soul, mesmerized by the so-called fame and glamour. My mother, a nurse for as long as I can remember, became my example of dedication and hard work. Saturdays were for salon visits—a ritual, whether I was getting pampered or simply soaking in the vibrant, creative energy of the space. These experiences painted my childhood with dreams that were vivid yet directionless. They were borrowed aspirations, and I didn’t realize how much they would influence my sense of self—or the lack of it.

That uncertainty followed me into adulthood. I chose to pursue healthcare administration in college (“because there’s always a job waiting in healthcare 😒”) and later earned a master’s degree in business. But neither made a dent in corporate America, and neither spoke to my soul. I would seldomly wonder, “there has to be more for me?” I was checking all the boxes but feeling completely unfulfilled.

It wasn’t until my 30-something years—married, raising children, and navigating life’s highs and lows—that I began to understand my scrambled mind was searching for something deeper. I didn’t just want a career or a title. I wanted to create a space where I could flourish and, in turn, help others do the same. A space where faith, family, and intentional living converge into something meaningful and beautiful.

Yours Truly, SW was born out of a desire to share my heart and experiences with women like me—those who’ve felt uncertain, isolated, or unsure of their path. It’s a space where I can pour into others as I share what God has been pouring into me.

This blog is rooted in the belief that flourishing isn’t about achieving perfection or success by the world’s standards. It’s about embracing your God-given identity, leaning into His plan, and finding joy in the journey. For years, I allowed fear and doubt to hold me back. But through faith, I’ve learned that God has a purpose for each of us, and it’s never too late to pursue it.
